History
A grant was awarded from Illinois State University with funding from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This grant provide $10,000 for the creation of an obesity prevention program for school age children.
After being awarded the grant in May of 2004, I imediately organized a team involving 3 Physical Education Teachers, the School Nurse, the District Nurse, the District Physical Therapist and a licensed Nutritionist who lives in the community. Together we developed a program that focuses on the central focus of changing habits.
The program begins in January of 2005 and targets families to become involved at no cost to them. For a two week period, the family is to:

- Assess personal fitness (pre test)
- Set goals
- Change daily habits
- Assess personal fitness (post test)
Each family is given a workbook to track progress and also is used as a resource of information stating the importance in certain habits.
