A grant was awarded from Illinois State University with funding from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This grant provide $10,000 for the creation of an obesity prevention program for school age children.

After being awarded the grant in May of 2004, I imediately organized a team involving 3 Physical Education Teachers, the School Nurse, the District Nurse, the District Physical Therapist and a licensed Nutritionist who lives in the community. Together we developed a program that focuses on the central focus of changing habits.

The program began in January of 2005 and targeted families to become involved at no cost to them. For a two week period, families participated in daily habit changing program that they woudl fit into their schedule.

The program was a great success with many participants. The program then branched out to two schools and Subway had taken an interest by providing Subway awards to participants and bringing in their current spokesperson "Jared" to come and encourage families to change their lifestyles in a positve way.

This graph shows the increasing amount of obesity. Thus spurring important programs such as P.E.O.P.L.E.
